Preparing for baby and becoming parents for the first time was an experience that surprised me every step of the way. You can think and plan all you want, but babies are full of surprises even from day one. When it came to the baby nursery, Sean and I wanted to keep the color palette neutral. We started creating this space before we knew if we were having a boy or a girl. All we were looking to do was create a safe and cozy space for our newborn baby. Since Samuel is our first baby, we really wanted to make the whole nursery very personal and special.
There is no right or wrong way to design a nursery, but I wanted to make sure that Sean, Samuel, and I all felt completely comfortable and at home in Samuel’s first space. That’s why the details of the nursery are very sentimental to me. We had custom wallpaper made with cute sayings and fun phrases to really personalize the space for Samuel. We have bookshelves against the wall full of books that I love to read Samuel. It’s so important to me that we have that time to learn and bond together.
Ultimately, I wanted the space to be crisp, bright, and clean so that when Samuel and I are having a tiring day, we can retreat to the nursery and relax. This is where the ultra-comfy chair for the corner comes in. It’s so relaxing to know that we can go upstairs and cuddle up in the chair. The most important thing was to design a nursery that feels as homey and cozy as the rest of the house. That’s why there’s plenty of pictures of the family and other warm accents included in Samuel’s baby room décor. We chose all white furniture – for example, the dresser for the baby wardrobe and the changing table – to keep the room looking modern. The white also helps to keep the room light and vibrant.
At the end of the day, Samuel’s space needed to be as baby friendly as possible. I want nothing more than for him to be happy and comfortable at all times. I also have quickly learned that motherhood and babyhood is messy and never picture-perfect, but it’s also filled with fun, adventures and precious memories. That’s why I wash all of his baby laundry in Dreft. Using Dreft has been really special to me because my mom used Dreft to wash my baby clothes. I love that I can carry on that tradition with my son. It makes me feel good to know that I’m using a brand that’s been trusted for over 80 years and is recommended most by pediatricians.
